Students who study economics learn to decode the systems that are a part of our everyday lives using models and a variety of social and economic data to analyze how decisions are made, and how limited resources are made, traded, and used. In this session, students will be able to get helpful information about the Department of Economics Undergraduate Program and its Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science majors. Students will also have an opportunity to meet with Department of Economics advisers, and get helpful tips on pursuing Economics as a major at the UW.

Nestled in between downtown Seattle and the Central District, Capitol Hill is one of Seattle's most eclectic neighborhoods. A hodgepodge collection of shops, restaurants, rainbow flags, and iconic Seattle venues, Capitol Hill is seen by many as the center for experiencing "the scene." Explore some of Seattle's most interesting stores, coffee shops, and more as you take in the culture. What’s more—you can get there in less time than it takes to choose a filter on Instagram (4 minutes from UW Station to Capitol Hill Station via Link light rail!). Come explore downtown Seattle with fellow UW students and learn how to get around using your U-PASS. Take a walk through Pike Place Market, down to the waterfront, or to the Aquarium. Find local shopping spots like Westlake Center and Pacific Place. Locate a few movie theatres, and figure out how to get back to campus on your own. Students love these tours, and the fun is only a traffic-free 8 minute ride on Link light rail! In collaboration with Transportation Services and U-PASS.

This One Bus Away Tour will be an exploration of the Northgate neighborhood, home to a huge mall that was recently renovated to include new and exciting shops and restaurants. Join the Washington tradition and kick off the 2016 Dawg Daze as a part of the UW community. Get ready to be welcomed to campus, to be entertained, and to connect with other students at the UW. This event is a required event for all new freshmen students. Immediately following, you'll meet for Peer Connections with a student leader, or if you're in a First-year Interest Group (FIG) or Transfer FIG, then you will meet with your FIG Leader. Meet current students eager to show you the ropes. Check-in begins at 1:45pm if you still need your Dawg Pass. If you already have your Dawg Pass, no need to check-in. You’ll learn how to navigate UW course technologies, find resources, and plan and prepare your academic journey. In this laser cutting workshop, we will walk you through the laser cutting process, from beginning to end. We’ll use the “Image Trace” tool in Illustrator to create templates from the web, which are imported to Rhino for laser cutting. Show off a make to your friends! Start off your school year on the right paw with a fun 3 mile run/walk around campus! Meet other healthy huskies and members of the Husky Running Club. Come early for the chance to win a FREE entry into the upcoming Dawg Dash 5k hosted by the UW Alumni Association! We welcome runners, joggers, and walkers. No previous running experience required, just come out and get your fitness on! Check-in for event and raffle at 9:00 am and run at 9:10 am. The Suzzallo & Allen Libraries are the largest of the 11 Libraries on the Seattle campus. They are also among the oldest and most architecturally impressive buildings on campus. They house almost 3 million volumes of humanities, sciences, and social sciences research materials, as well as a number of specialized units and collections and some of the most helpful people in the world. Also located here is Suzzallo Starbucks! At some point in your studies, these are libraries you will want to use. Come take a preview of this remarkable resource.

This comes from a variety of factors that they are faced with including lack of access to financial aid, the inability to apply for most scholarships due to the requirement of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence, or because they are working to support their families. Students who study economics learn to decode the systems that are a part of our everyday lives using models and a variety of social and economic data to analyze how decisions are made, and how limited resources are made, traded, and used. You will also hear about helpful resources offered through the Academic English Program. This session will help boost your confidence and set you up for success! Our Sustainable Campus Walking Tour map showcases just a few of UW’s most visible sustainability highlights; buildings, green spaces and other points of interest. As you walk through campus, you’ll see many sustainability features, such as the conveniently located solar-powered trash, recycling and compost bins; bike parking racks, lockers and cages along with self-service repair stations; electric car charging stations; local and organic food choices; and much more.
We will be meeting at Drumheller Fountain and the tour will leave promptly at 2:10. In collaboration with EcoReps, UW Sustainability.

Its students versus tutors and peer advisers in the 8th annual CLUE Trivia Night! Study up on current events, pop culture, and random useless information and then bring a team of friends or come alone and we will assign you to a team for the competition.

The Suzzallo & Allen Libraries are the largest of the 11 Libraries on the Seattle campus. They are also among the oldest and most architecturally impressive buildings on campus. They house almost 3 million volumes of humanities, sciences, and social sciences research materials, as well as a number of specialized units and collections and some of the most helpful people in the world. The University of Washington and the U District Partnership present Up Your Ave, a welcome event for incoming and returning UW students. From NE 41st St to NE 50th St all along University Way NE, a.k.a. "The Ave," During Up Your Ave, students travel “the Ave” collecting stamps from participating businesses. Additionally there are booths located along the sidewalks for sponsors, non-profits and other U District Businesses. The event culminates with a Party on the Street with music and games! There will be live music and tables with information on community involvement organizations. Great prizes, games and give-aways are featured at our local businesses. Come learn how you can get involved in your new community, check out the local scene, and explore the many restaurants and shops along "The Ave." Get all of the required stamps in your "Passport" and claim your free "UP YOUR AVE" T-shirt. The ECC staff kicks off the year of community building with an exciting evening of games and excitement at our annual block party! All students are invited to attend this fun-filled event which has something for everyone. Student organizations affiliated with the ECC and incoming students join the ECC staff in celebrating the beginning of the school year in the Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center, which opened as a state of the art cultural center and theatre in January 2013. Highlights of the block party will include: A photo booth, dance dance revolution, carnival food (popcorn, cotton candy & hot dogs), food trucks, live music, games, henna and caricature artists and student organization tabling. Come out and see what fun we have at the ECC! In collaboration with UW Housing and Food Services.
